Parlevue Francee?

Today was a huge day of travel. We spent last night in Bastogne, Belgium and got up early this morning to try to get to the Normandy area and still have a bit of time to do something. We left Arnhem about 6:45 am and drove to Liege, Belgium.  We had to wait for the rental car company to open its doors so we could turn in our vehicles.

We then had a delay with the high speed train to Paris. It came late and put us about 40 minutes behind schedule. We really flew down the tracks to Paris, then had to scramble to catch a train to a different train terminal and get there before our train to Caen departed. We made it in time and got a 2 hour and 5 minute train ride to Caen, France.  We picked up our diesel van and drove to Bayeux, France. We are now close to the site of the Normandy Beach landings. The events of the D-Day landing and invasion of France by the Allies will be our focus for the next couple of days.

After getting checked into our hotel we went out for supper.  We had just got back to the hotel for jackets since the temperature had dropped when the sky opened up and it started to rain. The rain quit a short time later and we walked to the magnificent cathedral where construction started about the year 1077.  We didn’t get to go inside but the outside view was great.

Today was almost all about travel as we prepared ourselves to focus the next couple of days on the D-Day landings and subsequent battles in the Normandy area.
